               Biography

     Welcome to my webpage!

My name is Sara Strieter.  In May 2017, I graduated with a degree in fine arts, and a minor in anthropology from Ripon College (Fon du Lac County, Wisconsin). I originally come from a small town in Southern Wisconsin where I currently live with my Family, our two English cream Golden Retrievers, and various other animals!

My family is Lakota (Native American), German and Irish, and we celebrate them all to the fullest. I find great joy in learning about all of the other history and rich culture throughout the world as well. I love it when people are passionate about their ancestry and honor their past, because I've seen that it breeds compassion among people.

As far as hobbies go, while growing up I could always be found either in the field in the back of our house, or in the woods surrounding it. I have always loved the outdoors and am fascinated by most anything to do with it. I also enjoy helping my relatives out with farm work, historical reenacting, hanging with friends, and martial arts (kendo, Okinawan kobudō / kobujutsu, and ninjutsu primarily). There are many other hobbies too, but these come to mind first I guess.

And of course, as you must have guessed by now, I also love making art. I mostly work with the style of realism, but have been known to experiment with others as well. It is exciting to continue learning new materials and techniques for art making, and I intend to continue learning for many years to come!

God Bless,

Sara

About the artist

        Artist Statement

The driving factor behind my work is the desire I’ve always had to help people around me see what they would normally miss.  I use multiple mediums – from textile work and painting, to sculpture and photography - to show the world what I have been lucky enough to experience:  conceptions that range from the cultural, to the spiritual and cognitive.

I strive to create a visual dialogue with viewers from any background by visually grounding my work in a familiar reality, and expanding other components into more ‘unfamiliar’ territory.  This ensures that most viewers will be able to relate to something in every piece I make, while also being introduced to a visual concepts that are potentially new – all at the same time.

All of life is owed to the Great Spirit.  Making art work that echoes creation, and that can inspire others to respect life is my ultimate goal… and one of the best ways I know to honor Him with my life.
